First Competition – My Brisbane

Well, didn’t know what to expect attending our first competition night at Brisbane Camera Group. The way it works is that members can submit a total of 4 images only (either prints and/or DPIs) for judging in the set subject or in the open section. The images are awarded either Acceptance or Merit or Honour.

The set subject this month is “My Brisbane”. The images submitted are to depict the city or people of Brisbane in a recognisable context. For people, show them in a recognisable Brisbane location. For Landscape, images should contain Architecture, cityscapes, landmarks of Brisbane.

The judge for the night provided feedback on each image submitted which I found very helpful. I think that everyone likes recognition at times and I was pleasantly surprised to have my image “Road To Brisbane” given a merit. The judge thought it would have been improved by taking the shot later in the day, maybe in the golden hour. This was a great start as Marie also received a Merit for one of her images.
